About Nancy Brown

I spent a lifetime as a clinical social worker and most of my career as head of a Canadian family service agency outside of Toronto.  During these years, I continued to do direct treatment as well as heading the agency.  Before retirement, I had been looking for what to do with my life when I saw Julie and Julia.  The movie awakened my long-dormant love of cooking, as initially learned from Julia’s shows and books, and nurtured by a variety of chefs and instructors until motherhood became the top priority.

Initially, the blog was not primarily about recipes, but recipes – their delight and sometimes despair – have become the focus (see Cooking with Julia remembered) .  Over the last two years, my grown daughter – a dedicated vegan – has had an increasing impact on my cooking, so vegan recipes are now a part of the blog.  Vegans deserve to have really good things to eat!

The blog is also about my interest in Julia and Paul individually and as an amazing and unique couple.

The blog is made possible by the support and encouragement of my husband of 40 years, George.  George is more gourmand than gourmet and is willing to eat anything I make.  He does the photos, and formats the posts as I am technologically challenged.

It is my pleasure to have the blog be a resource for people around the world who are looking for Julia’s less accessible recipes.

Best wishes and bon appetit!

Nancy

  6. Hi, Nancy! Thanks for liking my post! I love the concept of your blog and of course that you feature so many vegan recipes. I can’t wait to dig in! Julia Child was my first inspiration as well as Graham Kerr and Jeff Smith, The Frugal Gourmet. So many others along the way, but we never forget our first introduction to the culinary arts–that first spark.

I look forward to following your journey. Many blessings–Melanie

  16. Hmm it appears like your website ate my first comment (it was super long) so I guess I’ll just sum it up what I had written and say, I’m thoroughly enjoying your blog. I as well am an aspiring blog blogger but I’m still new to everything. Do you have any points for novice blog writers? I’d certainly appreciate it.

    • Hi Fay –

Sorry that your first comment didn’t get to me. I’m so glad you’re enjoying the blog. I certainly don’t think I have any expertise. I think the main thing is to write about something you really enjoy, and write often. Tags will bring readers to you. There is a Blogging for Dummies, and articles on the Web.

      Best wishes,

      Nancy

It is not only nice to follow your blog and learn through you but I get to taste sometimes too. How lucky am I dear friend!!Blessings Jane
